In 2020, Aleah Chapin’s work went through a seismic shift. Walking Backwards is a 4 minute film that tells that story, and is a reminder of how, so often, seemingly impossible situations can lead to beautiful new horizons if we just take a leap into the unknown.
Co-directed with Chris Rodriguez of Sequence 8 Creative, Walking Backwards has been shown in festivals including Cinequest, New York Short Film Festival, Berlin Short Film Festival, and Atlanta Docufest, winning Best Seattle Filmmakers Award from Seattle Film Festival and Best Short Documentary from Venice Film Festival.
The music, which was with Aleah from the very first experimental brushstrokes of her new work, was created by Essie Jain and Patrick Glynn. The song used in the film is called The Rising, on Essie’s 2018 album As I Return.
